You can imagine the excitement Joe Budden must have had returning to the New York area (he’s from New Jersey) — you can also imagine how upset he got when he was arrested an hour before the Slaughterhouse concert at the Best Buy Theatre in New York City. Three quarters of the rap group announced that Budden was arrested for a warrant stemming from from a 2007 traffic violation.
Just a few minutes after 10 p.m. Joell Ortiz opened the show when he took the stage reciting his verse to the group’s fan-favorite “The Illest.” Long Beach, California MC Crooked I followed, but there was a visible absence. The DJ cued up “Sound Off” next and Royce da 5’9″ marched out spewing his patented Detroit venom, but with three quarters of the Slaughterhouse machine on stage, Joe Budden’s absence was glaring. It was then that Slaughterhouse announced their outspoken bandmate had been arrested by the NYPD.
According to MTV, the crowd chanted “Joey, Joey, Joey” without any prompting from the group. Royce da 5’9″ responded by saying, “We love Joey too, chanting for him ain’t gonna get him outta jail.”
The early consensus on Twitter regarding the arrest is that Budden is arrested over an unpaid traffic ticket, while George Zimmerman is still walking free.
The Source Magazine tweeted this photo of the group on stage
As of posting time, none of the other three members of Slaughterhouse have tweeted anything.
Budden has returned to Twitter after his arrest, sending out a couple of tweets as of this update.
